Summerfest 2007 Starts Today!

It has been a long wait, and I am sure a lot of work for the folks who work on making Summerfest great, but the gates open in just a couple hours, marking the beginning of the 40th Anniversary of Summerfest.

Tonight Steely Dan playes at the Marcus Amphitheater at 7:30p. Should be a good show, however they have been around quite a bit lately, so hopefully the crowd is still in to another rendition of "Rikki Don't Lose That Number", "Deacon Blues" and "Reelin' in the Years".

You already know this, but don't forget to get your Def Leppard tickets with Foreigner and Styx for tomorrow night's show at the Marcus Amphitheater. I think you will find good seats available around town.

The weather report looks pretty good so far for the opening of the 'fest which always bodes well for attendance.

Drew Olson chats with Summerfests' Don and Bob

Regardless of the topic (in years' past it was the terminable Milwaukee Brewers), Drew Olson always has delivered content I found entertaining, interesting, informative and sometimes all three congruently.

Today OnMilwaukee.com posted a recent interview Olson did with Bob Babisch, VP of entertainment at Summerfest and Don Smiley, CEO of Summerfest. They cover crowds, ticket prices, attendance and the bands.

Summerfest...coming to a tv near you!

What happens at Summerfest stays at Summerfest…right? Not this year!! You may find your Summerfest shenanigans being documented for posterity by one of the many camera crews being sent by Country Music Television to cover the festival!

The cable channel will be on hand shooting footage for a series of specials entitled “CMT at Summerfest,” which will premiere August 3-5. The shows are scheduled to feature performances by Sugarland, Big & Rich and Sara Evans who will all be performing at the Miller Roadhouse Stage.

The channel will also be taping the “CMT Top Twenty Countdown” at Summerfest with the host Lance Smith.

This is the second year in a row the cable channel is making the trip up from Nashville to Summerfest. And this year, they are saying the crew is going to be much bigger! Last year they brought six production trailers, nine cameras and eighty staff members—so who knows what’s in store for this year!!

So before you head to the fest…you might want to make sure you’re well-dressed…CMT is broadcast to 84 million homes in the country!

Small Business Times Article: The Business of Summerfest

Kind of an interesting read from the May issue of Milwaukee's Small Business Times on The Business of Summerfest.

With close to one million Summerfest attendees, vendors find it to be a perfect venue to showcase and test new product offerings. The article estimates that the total economic impact Summerfest has on Milwaukee reaches roughly $110 million annually.

Curious to learn more about Summerfest? Here is the publications' posting on Summerfest by the Numbers.

See you in 20 days and 21 hours!

Summerfest less than a month away

In less then a month, the smell of fried foods, the feel of the summer sun, the sights of big bellies, and the sound of music will be soon at hand. If you have not heard yet, this years lineup at the at the Marcus Amphitheatre should be one to remember. I plan on going to as many days at Summerfest as i can. With that in mind, I worry about parking. Last year, parking was atrocious My plans this year is to one, bus it or two ride my bike. Thou, you might want to do the former if you plan on drinking. Did you know that you can get a DUI while you are peddling you bicycle.
