Summerfest Closed July 4th 2011 and Back On After That

In what I find to be a very interesting change, Summerfest will close the gates for the July 4th 2011 holiday. This is the first time that they will shut down in the middle of the run. Summerfest management stated that the festival will run through Sunday July 10th. This will cut out the Monday doldrums that seem to occur down at the festival. Summerfest tickets do not sell well when the Forth of July lands on a Monday, and that is exactly what is lining up for 2011.
I like the idea of closing for one day. It's tough for music fans to decide between attending the local fireworks, or seeing a band that you love. My holiday starts early that day, and I don't feel like heading down to the festival grounds after eating a ton of great food. This way, we can enjoy the holiday, and know that we won't have to decide between family traditions, and music.

What up with that?

It makes sense to me. I would rather eat great bbq, have a cold one, and watch fireworks. Summerfest is fun on July 4, but so many people get pulled in two directions on that day.

I don't think they should close the fest in the middle of the week. I think it breaks up the momentum of the fest. Besides, what are the vendors going to do with all that food?

I saw a great show last July 4th, at Summerfest, but my friends could't make it. Family came first. This is a cool idea. Also, this is the day after the Big Bang, where half the city is at Summerfest.
